Music Lessons & Workshops

Music is a universal language. It conveys emotion, it tells stories, it can speak to you in a way that no other language can. In practising music we learn a whole new way to express some of the most authentic parts of ourselves that otherwise could not be shared. In this we explore harmony, dissonance, tension and release, the communicative power and the majestic beauty of the wonderful world of music!

  • Lessons for individuals or groups, all ages:

    • Percussion — Beginner to Advanced

    • Ukulele — Beginner to Intermediate

    • Guitar — Beginner to Intermediate

    • Piano — Beginner to Novice

Approach: When learning music I think it is important and helpful to learn from multiple different avenues. We explore music theory, how to read and write sheet music, and how to count, speak, and vocalize what we are playing. We touch on composition, improvisation, and creation as well as the mathematics and the language of music. But perhaps most importantly, we explore how it feels to play and what it is to get into the groove.

  • Workshops are multi-hour sessions with multiple participants where we cover many different levels of learning. They are designed with the intention of sharing knowledge and practising techniques, but most importantly, getting those involved playing and having fun with their instrument in a single workshop.

    Percussion Workshops

Guiding and regulating our own rhythm by drumming is an extremely powerful process to facilitate equilibrium, balance, peace, and control. This is for anyone who would like to start playing drums, improve their skills, understand more about rhythm, or increase their experience of rhythm within themselves.

Hand Drums (Djembe, Congas, Bongos, etc.)

The hand drum workshop is designed with a drum circle in mind. When playing in circle, we facilitate coherence and can explore the many different roles that can arise from collaboration. We learn how to hold the foundational rhythm together, expand on the foundation, and then of course, solo and improvize.

    Drum Kit

The drum kit was my very instrument and is certainly my strongest. Studying the kit and all its expressions has improved my thinking, my comprehension of math, language, and rhythm, as well as my breathing and the regulation of my emotions. It has been a tool for healing and evolution. With playing the drum kit we explore what it means to hold the foundation for other musicians, and to create chemistry in a band setting.

    Ukelele

The uke is a great instrument to start with, it is one of the easier string instruments and it also has a bright and joyful sound. For me it has proven to be the best instrument to compose songs with; the ease of which I can move through the chords allows a lot of space for free expression. In the workshop we would experience what it’s like to all play in unison as well as learning the basics of soloing while others hold chord progressions. We would also find songs to learn and play together.
