Youth Support

Through all the forms of Youth Support, it is my intention to foster an environment of growth, empowerment, understanding, joyful living, and wondrous exploration.

  • Areas of exploration:

    • Language: Creative Writing, Grammar, Rhetoric

    • Mathematics: Basic Functions, Patterns in Numbers, Problem Solving

    • Tutoring in other elementary and junior high classes

    What it may look like:

    • Honouring mistakes as opportunities to expand our learning

    • Viewing the brain as a muscle that we can exercise by choosing how to use it

    • Finding joy in challenges, seeing every obstacle as an opportunity for personal growth

    • Learning about the mind and how it operates to better understand how to use it

    • Taking things slowly and utilizing many perspectives for better comprehension

    • Observing the connections between all things. Recognizing patterns and connections between ourselves, nature, and the varied subjects and disciplines we choose to learn

Philosophy: My tutoring is first and foremost about building a relationship with the child. Through bonding I become aware of how they think and how they learn. In building a trusting, safe, and fun environment the child is more inclined to want to learn. It is my belief that learning should be enjoyable and rewarding. It is not so much about what we are learning but rather finding and nurturing a love for learning itself.

  • Mentorship is all about modelling the behaviours and principles that one hopes to instil in another. It is about leading someone to their own answers, strengthening their own abilities, nurturing their confidence, and exposing their unlimited potential.

    What it may look like:

    • Exploring what they enjoy together to share an interest in what they love

    • Exploring what I enjoy to foster a sense of empathy and to expand their interest in trying new things

    • Implementing practices that foster awareness, honesty, and responsibility

    • Speaking openly about our emotions and learning about how to process them in a healthy way

    • Highlighting the importance of a healthy mind and body for emotional well-being

    • Creating and expressing through artistic processes such as art, music, games, and performance

    • Practising the skills of both one-pointed focus and broadening our perspective

    • Demonstrating the benefits of patience, integrity, consistency, determination, virtue, and purpose

    • Embodying self-love, self-esteem, self-respect, and belief in one’s own unlimited potential

Philosophy: My intent is always to model first and instruct second. Children learn more by osmosis and observation than they do by instruction. In creating a safe place for children to be themselves in whatever form they are currently in, they naturally refine that expression to mirror what they see that works to bring about happiness, joy, growth, and wonder.

Rates:

Standard rate is $40 per hour per student/child. The rate per student decreases with each additional student involved in the tutoring/mentorship.

Single child - $40/hr

Two children - $30/hr each

Three children - $25/hr each

Four children - $20/hr each

My intent is to make these lessons/mentorships as affordable as possible. I will also be offering a Scholarship Program for some who may not have the financial means. I would not want to deny a child an education that I can offer because my rates are not within the household budget.
